RIP the threshold of importance

Cost used to act as a proxy filter for importance. If something was expensive to do, it had to clear a higher bar to be worth doing. AI doesn’t just lower that cost. The filter goes with the friction. And what floods through isn’t only the valuable work that was previously too expensive. It’s also work that was never worth doing, that sat below the threshold for good reason. And that’s the work people reach for first, because cost was never the real obstacle.

The real obstacle was a harder conversation they still don’t want to have. I made the same point from the other side once: the plans were never the problem, executing them was.
